I love this series, but it seems like this book took too much of a historical fiction turn rather than being a mermaid book (although it's both). Too much time is spent on focusing on the English, Lucy's mother trying to work reltionships for her daughter, and not enough time explaining things such as Gar finding out about May, Hannah's relationship with Stannish, Lucy's relationship with Phin, and other loopholes that, while teen readers may pass over them, will be picked up on by adult readers like me. As for what is really drawing readers to the series, unlike her sisters, Lucy doesn't gradually discover she's a mermaid- it just seems to happen. It seems rushed, and kind of evens out, but just doesn't seem to get it all together. The ending is a cliffhanger, and definitely promises more books. It's kind of hard to leave the series like it is anyway because of such a huge cliffhanger. However, the ending is rushed, although it wasn't too bad. Again, it leaves loopholes (such as where Phin is after the horrible thing happens to Lucy), but hopefully those will be cleared up later on.
It was great to have the sisters come together, and to learn more about their past. It's too bad that wasn't focused on more in the book, but with more books hopefully coming, we can pass over this book as just a bit of filler on the way to more exciting installments.
Then again, remember, this is a YA book, not adult fiction, so these things are bound to happen...

It is a very good book but it frightened me with the cliffhanger...
Thank goodness there is going to be another book.
LUCY is another wonderful book of hardships.( it would make more sense if you read my review to MAY.)
I loved them all one of the best series I have read! Great series to read. Would recommend it to anyone
A great birthday present. My sister loves this book.
This book is a gasping for breath kind of book when you turn each page. It kept you in suspension at the end of each chapter. It keeps you wanting to read more. Kathryn Lasky did a good job on this book ( that is why it deserves a 5 stars) and I can't wait to read to find out what she has in store on the next adventure!
I really like the way this series sync up in this book.
gift for my granddaughter. she was very pleased
The other two books were purchased as a Christmas gift. The fourth book is only
available in ebook form.
